The origami folds series photographs are all created on 8 x 10 B&W negative film, carefully hand processed in Pyro and digitally scanned on a drum scanner. Large pieces of paper were at first folded into figures by well- known origami creator, Michael Shall to get perfect creases. The paper was then unfolded/semi-flattened by the photographer and daylight was reflected/refracted by various custom built surfaces and recorded as it was carefully guided across the paper. There is no digital manipulation. To compensate for low light levels, some of the exposures were measured in hours.
I'm interested in the visual depiction of the illusion of depth and space while doing the most with the least; just a piece of paper and some light. As with all abstract art the viewer's imagination, background and consciousness become the critical part of the experience.
