The old housing estate buildings in Hong Kong hold a particular fascination for me, as the architecture, the way of life and the culture in the estates made up a rich heritage cherished by many in Hong Kong.
We live in a society where technology is embraced as a reliable substitute for memory. But then we are too lazy that we substitute everything with dull colours. If this process is inevitable, why don't we substitute with more vivid colours, and why don't we look at our lives from a little bit different perspective?
In this series, I try to substitute the lost memories in the old housing estates with my imagination. My imagination fluctuate between dreams, hope, and sometimes fear, but no matter what the substitutions are, this is our responsibility to think, to fill in the incomplete and imperfect scenes of everyday life, and hope for a better future in our society.
Dots will always connect, and I hope that through my works, audiences will start to make their own connections and inspire them to really think for themselves about an issue and come to their own conclusions that will hopefully heal deep rifts within themselves.
