Our world has become so engrossed with aesthetics that it has forgotten about the souls beneath the skin. We must lead the ‘perfect’ life to be accepted by the majority at face value.
A classics teacher told me how I was one of the worst results he had ever had, my whole world would never be the same again. Nobody was aware at the time of what was to come, not even myself. It took over me like the dark night sky; naturally and out of my control.
Greek Mythology, tell us that an Eclipse is a sign from the Gods, to mark the beginning of disaster and destruction. It is from here that this piece has developed, as there are parallels drawn together from this belief and my own experiences. It was nothing that you could physically see. Once in bloom, the life I had was no more. It was replaced with loneliness as I faded away into the mist of existence. Each day a mask was put up, so others couldn’t see what was going on, due to the fear of becoming an outcast. Though no matter how hard I tried, my eyes were always the truth tellers.

AUTHOR
Aged 21, Fine-art photographer, studying in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, UK.
Through the lens, I am able to capture my imagination and bring it to life. My work is aimed to evoke emotions, so that viewers can begin to understand another's mind. There is more to everyone than first appearances, we all have stories to tell, someone of which we feel ashamed to speak of. It is through photography, that I want to break the boundaries of stigmatising mental illnesses, raising awareness through beautiful visuals, that by looking deep enough you can make out the darkness within.
Finalist of National Open Art Competition in 2013, 'Broken China' photography. Exhibited in The Royal College of Art, London and Chichester October 2013. This piece was sold in one of the shows.
