Portrait nominee

This project describes an “outside” state. I put the occurring in the field of fantasy, of an “incubator” – the place where emotions, pain, vulnerability and experience are naked, where situations are somewhat absurd, associative, where they echo childhood, and question female and male nature. A play implying the contact with object functions as a search, a test and discovery of various thresholds of the sensuous and an exploration of relations with one’s self and the environment. I make a kind of performance using staged photography and inserting scenes in which distortion or discomfort occurs. And my wish was to show and create by distortion, absurdity and environment cleaning some true space. My photography is based on ordinary things we do as human beings. I tend to intensify the moments we don’t give much attention to, responses and behaviors that characterize us as people. Every photo is a type of communication with the world, in which viewers can also create dialog and meaning. This parallel-photo-reality has rules of its own, after all – with the narrow tools of the frame, which has to include some experience of life, the only document that can enclose the realistic feeling of this reality is emotion.

Originally, I’m from Pyatigorsk ,the North Caucasus region of Russia, I was born in 1979 and since 2000 I live in Israel. B.F.A. from Bezalel academy of arts and design, photography department, Jerusalem.

I participated in Japan Media Arts Festival, where I got the Excellence Prize. Was presented by Stella art foundation gallery as part of the festival for young art in Moscow, took part in the Festival of staged photography and be presented there by Aktives Museum Spiegelgasse fur Deutsch-Judische Geschichte in Wiesbaden.
I also received the Scholarship by The America-Israel Cultural Foundation, and the Prize of Lorin and Mitchell Presser for exellence in photography. My photos were published in Burn Magazine, where I was twice the Finalist of Emerging Photographer Fund.

Recently I was awarded Creativity Encouragement Prize by Israel’s Ministry of Culture and Sport. Took part the main exhibition programme of Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece and MoBy Museum in Israel. As well I became a laureate of DongGang International Photo Festival, South Korea and was nominated for Top 10 Photographers of the World, Sente-Antu, China.
In Malmö, Sweden I had personal exhibition in Fotogalleri Vasli Souza.
