Spirituality, and it's impact on life, is always on my mind. We are physical beings who must ultimately lose our physical trappings(die) to truly be with God. Real beauty is spiritual purity, but can the essence of real beauty be captured through death? By juxtaposing beautiful, yet dead, creatures with the living, I hope to convey the power of moments and things in life that are about joy, innocence, redemption, and beauty in darkness. These moments are eternal, pure and lovely. They define our lives.
I prefer to work in black & White, using the play of light to explore light and darkness, both physical and spiritual, showing truths through contrast. My "Parts of the Earth" series was inspired by Psalm 139:15
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the parts of the earth.
I have been a photographer for 23 years. I am "old school", preferring film. This series was done in 4x5. My favorite subjects are my 4 children as well as self portraits.
