NAISSANCE - Birth
Series of ten digital photographs, limited edition, ed. of 7, 100 x 100 cm, 2012
Birth is a series where life and death are to be found together, echoing each other like shadows, like alter egos. The series explores the processes of life and death, staging and warding off the inevitable with the tools of irony and self-mockery.
But it is mostly women and their future that are highlighted.
Pictured as grotesque and strangely seductive creatures, those women guide us in the exploration of dream and of fantastic images, laying the stress on individuals and their evolution. Hybrid, altered, they are the characters of a story stretching at the border between reality and fiction.
Taken along a process of metamorphosis, those beings question with humour and sarcasm the archaic aspects of genre, while affirming the human condition.
A strange farce that mocks at traditional canons and the ritual phases through which the women who become mothers have to go.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
The photographer and plastic artist Francesca Di Bonito, born in 1978 in Naples, has been living in Paris since 2004.
She very early on showed a great feeling for art, which led her quite naturally to study first art history, then photography, at Rome’s Istituto Europeo di Design and later at the Université Paris-VIII.
In addition to her research and creative work around the photographic support, Francesca also worked as a press photographer with French and international media (such as Le Monde 2, Marie Claire, Elle, etc.). She also covered great television events, both backstage and on the sets.
In recent years she has devoted herself mostly to her career as a plastic artist, concentrating on the theme of the photographic picture and its future.
Francesca Di Bonito distinguishes herself by a different approach to images: sensitive as she is to the plastic potential of photography, she uses it to tell the stories of lives and of identities.
While always working the photographic medium, she has created a multi-faceted oeuvre. Stepping outside the two-dimensional form of photography proper and drawing on a wide range of languages from the different arts, she has created a protean three-dimensional work.
