“Berdichev”- Artist statement
“You are going away, Yulchik”, he said, as we were standing in the Saint
Petersburg airport in April of 1994.
“Don’t be sad, daddy”, I answered. “I’ll go and then i’ll come back”.
Since then and for the last 20 years I have been leaving and coming back, moving back and forth on some invisible line, like a lost set of keys, waiting for its owner to recall the last time it was seen.
I have lived in Israel since I was 6 years old.
I have left nothing behind except for a father and a tender memory of a snow that suddenly, in the middle of some spring, after it melted completely, began to fall again.
This is the reason I always wondered about the tears of the 10 year old girl I was when I came back to my homeland, for the first time after our immigration.
