These photographs were taken in long-abandoned chambers located under the bustling streets of Washington DC. While they have been forgotten, they do have historical significance, as they acted as the water filtration system for the city long ago. However, the site has been shut down since World War II, and has since been long-forgotten by those two live above it. They are now in danger of being removed to make way for new retail and condominium space.
The photos are all very long-exposure shots, as they are meant to be symbolic of a movement that's trying to preserve this long-forgotten historic site. The long exposures allow for the little bit of light that does make it underground to expand and infiltrate the darkness, hopefully bringing this forgotten landmark to light and back into the minds of the local residents.
