DRAG (Series)
DESCRIPTION
I spent two years photographing the female-impersonators at the blue moon in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. At first I thought I was just photographing dudes in dresses, but what I discovered was that these men are artists and talented performers. There is a common misconception that drag queens “want to be women” or are transvestites which is entirely untrue. This series was made to educate a closed minded community, within a prominent gay community, which ended up having a huge impact on the community. This was shot with a Mamiya C3 on Tri-X.
AUTHOR
The best way to make change is through education, and the best way to educate someone is by showing them something different. I have lived by this theory since embarking on an incredible journey, using my talent as a photographer to help change peoples lives. From photographing drag queens, to people living with dementia in rural African villages, I have honestly portrayed people living lifestyles that some people do not understand or from uneducated opinions about. I want to inspire social change with my photography and impact the world in a positive way.
