"Man/nequin"
Series of 5
2015
Description:
As a society, we are bombarded by images of female perfection and the fashion world takes pleasure in feeding us a standardized equation of how to become the perfect woman through the media. Look at any fashion magazine, you will find a generic female, sexually appealing and luxurious, Vogue-like. But, what is it really like behind the scenes?
The more glamorous the girl appears, the more unimaginable the reality. No one knows how much it costs to obtain that figure, that measurements, that face. We are more than numbers, more than a mannequin, more than an object. All we must do is look at the reflected self in the mirror
"Man/nequin" offers a sneak peek into the making of the fashion image and questions the power of advertising and consumerism over aesthetics, analyzing the inherent deception of the visual..
“The mirror was often used as a symbol of the vanity of woman. The moralizing, however, was mostly hypocritical.”
