Fine Art 3rd place winner

Vivid Dreaming is a series of work in which I aimed to portray certain dreams that I have had that I vividly remember. The challenge was to visually communicate about something that is intangible and invisible to others.

I constructed sets so I that I was able to work a lot more abstractly to re-create the mood, environment, and story. Working behind a roll of white paper, I carefully combined cut out drawings, papers, and objects. I then illuminated them from behind to create scenes seen through the white paper. Working with shadow, light, silhouettes, and reflections I created a final composition that I photographed. These temporary staged narratives were similar to the fleeting experience of dreaming itself.


Photography has the ability to not only make the subject seem realer than life but also to immortalize it. In this way, it has given me a voice and has served as a vehicle for re-making my dreams as close to real as I can get.

I am a photographically based artist currently residing in the Tampa Bay area of Florida with a BFA in Fine Art Photography from Syracuse University. Using a multi step technique, I construct table top sets for the camera with drawings cut from paper, glass, tissue paper, and objects. I put a sheet of white paper in front of the sets and illuminate them from behind to create scenes seen through the white paper. Working with shadow, light, silhouettes, and reflections I create a final composition that I photograph.

My work has been exhibited venues such as the Center for Fine Art Photography, Photo Place Gallery, LightBox Photographic Gallery, PH21 Gallery, the Dark Room Gallery, and the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. Publications include Art Ascent Magazine, ARTiculaction Magazine, F-Stop Magazine, Lenscratch Magazine, Light Leaked Blog (and related exhibition) , and featured in the up coming "Diffusion Annual 2016", published by Blue Mitchell. I have received numerous juror awards and was recently awarded a 2016 Individual Artist's Grant from the Tampa Bay Arts Council.
