With this body of work I set out to create a series of images which are surreal but yet real. The idea is to photograph an image within an image but without the use of photoshop to achieve this effect. By physically integrating "floating" mirrors into the environment(with the help of transparent Lucite), I discovered that I could have "dual landscapes”… even “dueling landscapes”. With that comes the prospect to mix and match topographies and environments in intriguing and provocative ways.
Part of my inspiration for this work originates from the first landscape photographers of the 19th and 20th centuries. While they used mules and guides to ferry their large cameras and glass plates, I can make use of off-road vehicles and modern packs to carry the heavy and fragile mirrors that I use. That said, it can be physically taxing. Yet I find that it’s also an exciting challenge to get out to these different environments with all these tools to create.
What interests me are the effects of the reflections in the mirrors, which seem to generate a gateway to another place or dimension. I experience the mirror like I would a daydream. Where I kind of lose
