Sehnzucht (Series)
DESCRIPTION
The title of the works 'Sehnzucht' is a combination of two different words; the German word 'Sehnsucht' which means 'longing for/ desire' and 'Sucht' means 'addiction/obsession'. The Dutch word 'zucht' also means 'to sigh/to ache for' It signifies the two worlds where I am at the moment. Somewhere between Germany and The Netherlands, time is passing by slowely. As a mother watches her child grow up in another country, winter turns into another spring. Inpired by the ‚Instant Light’ series of Tarkovsky.
AUTHOR
Eva Gjaltema (1979, Zwolle, NL) sees photography primarily as a medium for recording time, memories and transience. In her work she refers to universal themes like the family institution and the influence of history on the present. Her projects go over a longer period of time, using different kinds of media.
Eva majored has a Degree in Photographic Design at the Royal Academy for the Visual Arts in The Hague, the Netherlands. She was selected ‘Best of photography departments art academies Netherlands 2008’ by the Amsterdam Centre of Photography with her installation and book ‘wrang’. In 2010 she was nominated for the Dutch Doc Award for her exhibition ‚Famylje’ at the Noorderlicht Photofestival, which is also part of the collection of the Fries Museum. She held a Stipendium to create the work 'Knoalster' in 2011, which was exhibited at the Kunsthal Rotterdam and Noorderlicht Gallery Groningen. Her work ‚Illumination I’ was part of the New Dutch Photography Talent (GUP) 2012. More recently her work ‚Fernweh& Heimweh’ featured ‘Editors Pick’ and ‘Conceptual Project’ at Lensculture. In 2016 her work 'Sehnzucht' was nominated within the Fine Art section (Professional) of the FAPA
