Three Tables. An Edward Hopper Tribute

I have always been fascinated by Edward Hopper's treatment of light and shadow and how he uses stark light in his compositions. These are the first three photos (Table One) of a series in which I portray meals that I imagine could be consumed in Edward Hopper's visual world: Table One, a middle class aesthete. Table Two, a thirtysomething woman. Table Three, a middle aged bachelor. Loneliness and solitude are two themes that recur in Hopper's work and to me, eating alone is a moment when those two qualities are heightened and intensified; sharing a meal is something special, a time when we unite in a communal activity and it is often seen as a manifestation or demonstration of goodwill. Eating a meal on your own can be a moment of peace but more often it is a very lonely experience.

I am a Swedish photographer living in Italy, specialising in food photography, both commercial and editorial, but also working on fine arts projects.
