God in the Womb (Single)
DESCRIPTION
A young trainee of the ancient practice known as "Theyyam" resting inside a temple cave near his hometown.
Theyyam ceremonies take place around the North Kerala district of Kannur, India.
A Theyyam performer, or artist as they are often referred to, begins by reciting the story of the particular god, which he is depicting.
After the recital the artist assumes a trance-like state, where he is no longer believed to be human, but a living incarnation of one of the many millions of Hindu Gods.
AUTHOR
My name is Asher Svidensky. I'm a freelance photographer specialising in Art photography but with a strong passion for documentary and story telling.
Whilst being conscripted into the military back in 2009 (2009-2012) I was fortunate enough to be able to do it as a photographer and there began my career. My body of work has since been published in magazines and newspapers around the world, including the BBC (TV, radio and website). National geographic (USA) and many more. In 2014 I also had the privilege of giving a TEDx talk.
A photo project that one might be most familiar with is "The eagle huntress", a project which discovered Mongolia's first eagle huntress, 13 year old Ashol-Pan, in more than a thousand years.The story and images were published in National Geographic yearbook in a double spread print and shared intensely on the BBC (TV channel, radio and website) alongside many magazines and newspapers around the world.
