Future People (Series)
DESCRIPTION
Being a journalist and a photographer for over ten years, I have been doing plenty of projects on social reportage, particularly on LGBT rights in the Middle East and in Asia. Future People was the result of the saturation of an attitude I’ve seen, and somewhat suffered through the years. Having collected hundreds of interviews from the gay and transexual community, the first judgement that people have on them is merely estethic; the second is on their sexual habits. This violation, even from politicians and governments, of the private life of all of those who do not belong to the heterosexual category, has brought me to channel this frustration into Future People. The body, absorbed in a neutral limbo, kills the possibility of judging one being from the esthetic point of view, flattening the judgment (skinny, fat, beautiful, ugly, straight or gay) focusing this way the attention of the final consumer on the actual photograph -the body- itself.Being is and not being in not (Parmenide). The Body is. No adjectives needed.
AUTHOR
I’ve never won a World Press Photo and I can’t afford the camera I wish I had. Despite all of this, during the last 39 years, I’ve never stopped collecting in my backpack all the tools I need to express myself. Photography, painting, writing and filming. From the intangibility of fine art to the realism of reportage, time after time, I’ve explored what makes me feel good. Born in 1981 in Northern Italy, from a family of the South, I’m a photojournalist taking care of social relevant topics such as the geopolitics of Middle East and Asia, LGBTQI* rights and gender gap issues. In the last 12 years, I worked as video producer for media agencies in Milan and Rome, and for Endemol Shine Italy. In 2019, I decided to focus my efforts on the above-mentioned social interests. I dedicated myself to the creation and production of original ducumentaries (both photo and video). 2020: Super Plasma and Alone. Together projects published on PERIMETRO and CoviDiaries by PARALLEO ZERO; Fellowship by Sundance Institute; Top 10 Malta International Photography Award [People category]; Nominee in Fine Art Photography Award [Open Theme category]; 2019: 3rd place PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris [Portrait category]
