My photo weaves are a culmination of many emotions weaved together to further express and work through the impact of my traumatic experience.
"Recycled" symbolizes the feelings of being thrown out with the trash, recycled, crushed, and forgotten.
"Safe Zone" replicates the 3 long year period of isolation within my own home.

Artist Statement – Dori Ottaviano - Retired Air Force Veteran

I explore the impact of traumatic experiences by photographing symbolic objects or by using existing images to represent them. I then slice two or more related images into thin strips, put them back in their original order, and weave them together. The repetitive process of going over and under, up and down, provokes reflection, improves perspective, and brings clarity, where healing and/or understanding begins.
