My photo weaves are a culmination of many emotions weaved together to further express and work through the impact of my traumatic experience.
"Recycled" symbolizes the feelings of being thrown out with the trash, recycled, crushed, and forgotten.
"Safe Zone" replicates the 3 long year period of isolation within my own home.

Artist Statement – Dori Ottaviano


I explore the impact of a traumatic experience by photographing symbolic objects to represent the long-term affects. I then slice two or more related images into thin strips, put them back to their original order, and weave them together. The repetitive process of going over and under, up and down, provokes reflection, improved perspective, and clarity, to where healing begins.
