One of Rio de Janeiro's best-known neighborhoods, Ipanema has been important in building the imagery of a tropical, colorful, lively and sunny country.
The "Ipanema, Brazil" series contrasts with this symbolic meaning. By adopting a pale, cloudy, corroded aesthetic from which the expected exuberance and joy are absent, its images move in a metaphorical sense. In its sad beauty, they seek to reflect the disenchantment and the lost dreams of a country that permanently postpones its future.
