Cordova, a small town located within the Chugach National Forest, is one of the main locations for commercial fishing in Alaska. Wild salmon thrives in an extraordinary ecosystem of the Prince William Sound and Copper River Delta area. The season starts in May and ends in September, during these four months the town is busy hosting fishermen and -women from other parts of Alaska, neighboring states and Canada.
The Department of Fish and Game carefully manages all the commercial fishing opening. “Openings” are time frames when the fishing is allowed, their duration is usually 12-24 hours in the begining of the reason and gets longer as the season progresses.
