Open Theme nominee

Valle Aurelia, Rome. I lived in the Valle Aurelia neighborhood for five years, not far from the so-called "red buildings." Five gray buildings with red fixtures twelve floors high, built in the late seventies to meet the need of social housing. Those who live in the neighborhood call them "the spaceships." Once, the Valle Aurelia area, a stone's throw from St. Peter's, housed barracks and furnaces that produced bricks (the last one closed down in 1960). When the colossal geometric figures made of concrete invaded the district taking the place of carelessly erected single-storey tiny houses, the inhabitants really must have thought about spaceships. I made this suggestion mine and, with the complicity of the night, found the alien guise of a familiar neighborhood.
