Panoramic nominee

Our ancestors who lived on the Japanese archipelago, surrounded by seas, must have sensed divinity in the ordinary landscape. They built torii in these places, began a prayer for welcoming nature's spirit, safe oceangoing journeys and for abundant harvests of the sea’s bounty. The function of torii in the natural landscape is an apparatus of communication with great nature.I tried to communicate those feelings in our day and age by using B&W long exposure methods to express divinity, both piety and spiritual calm and tranquility.

Eriko Kaniwa is a digital artist based in Tokyo and the creator of SENSEGRAPHIA FINE ART. SENSEGRAPHIA is a conceptual redefinition of photography, and aims to develop and express the sense of nature through fine art that enables us to recognize that humans are a part of nature and its profound relationship with humans.
