Gaston Bachelard wrote in Water and Dreams, “Art is grafted nature. [...] It is the graft which can truly provide the material imagination with an exuberance of forms”. This idea of graft best describes what inspire me, my desire to merge different life forms, to create hybrid beings and find myself an imaginary body.
I am trying to create images having the texture of dreams, to incubate speculative landscapes made of collisions and fantastic amalgams. The observation of nature excites the most conflicting emotions: puzzlement, repulsion, surprise or delight. It is a gushing spring of nightmares and reveries. These ambivalences are very potent stimuli and bear innumerable transpositions. I think my most evocative discoveries were at the juncture of such contradictory feelings, exhibiting a strain. Materializing the simultaneous processes of creation and destruction reveal the beauty of life cycles. Taming your own demons, using obsessions and anxiety to breed beauty, is exhilarating.
