Gabriel Leitner science and photographer
Biography
I was born in Israel in 1949, raised in a kibbutz where I lived until 1983, when I left for the United States to begin a career in science. Upon returning to Israel, I completed my PhD in Biology and have worked as a senior researcher for the past 25 years.
My pictures were exhibited in a group exhibition which traveled all around Israel in 2004. I then joined a group called "The Camera as a Brush", focusing on the artistic aspect of photography. I participated in an exhibition in the Agora Gallery in New York in 2010 (press release included below). In June 2012, I had an individual exhibition in Barcelona, Spain. In 2017, I will have an exhibition in Tel Aviv.
Artist Statement
My science is art and my art is science. My art is untitled so each viewer can be exposed to the work without any preconceived notion. The art is designed to provide the viewer with a three-dimensional experience with infinite possibilities. The viewer discovers new responses and discoveries each time with different light, in varying emotional states.
