For a split second, light illuminates the brilliance of the ordinary existence of things; it exalts and then vanishes within an instant.
To me light is both a tangible and evanescent medium, if not a language. By fading, shading, moulding and carving the light in my photographs, I try to transform reality and go beyond into an imaginative and intuitive realm. A dreamy meeting point of the palpable, the material, the evocative and the subliminal. In capturing the undefined spaces without sense of time, the 'non-places' created by the interaction of light and structure, I hope to translate my innermost voice into images, as well as open the viewer to theirs. . Each image gravitates around the same core: the mystery of the in-between places of the subconscious.

AUTHOR
After graduating from the Rietvelt Art Academy, Mo Verlaan (1963) started out in experimental theatre, creating sets on location as well as performing. Her love for travelling and cooking made Mo found the company De Drie Gezusters catering to (inter)national filmcrews from a converted truck.
