Shenzhen, China: From Fishponds to Megacity (Single)
DESCRIPTION
Started as an experimental Free Trade Zone in the 1980s, Shenzhen quickly got rid of its paddy fields and filled its fishponds to make way for development at a speed rarely seen before. Bordering Hong Kong, it now has higher skyscapers, and a bigger population than it's southern neighbor. The fishponds that Shenzhen once had can now only be seen in the northern most part of Hong Kong, the foreground in this photo.
AUTHOR
I moved to Hong Kong ten years ago from the Netherlands and have been photographing locally for the last eight years. I also took my camera and travels to many different Asian, European and Middle Eastern countries. My work ranges from landscape to cityscape, form street to nature. I aim for my photos to evoke emotion and a sense of wonder about life and nature in very diverse locations across the globe.
