Conceptual nominee

Marriage is still today an essential step for a couple. It is felt obligatory to formalize the couple, to realize its social recognition and to claim its happiness.
Wedding is an important moment in a marriage because it represents the ritual celebration of the first day of an union that becomes socially recognized. I have chosen to focus on this event because wedding is a reflection of what a social ritual or a social behavior means to me : the submission of individuality, the sacrifice of identity to the rules of a frenetic and chaotic yet composed and choreographed spectacle.
To express my feeling, I use wedding group photographs, quasi-obligatory performance that immortalizes that particular day. These photographs are family photographs (uncles and aunts, cousins) which belong to my parents. I photograph these photographs focusing on the bride and groom, ringmaster and ringmistress of this day, then I work on these photographs digitally in post-production (especially by strenghtening the grain).

Two types of work characterize me at present. On the one hand, I take photographs spontaneously, without any particular intention, just because what I saw stopped me. These photographs, very often treated in black and white, present a contemporary reality, which sometimes approach abstraction. To make these photographs, I am basically inspired by the works of William Eggleston, Nan Goldin and Henri Cartier-Bresson. On the other hand, I work on photographic series, often integrated in installations, which deal with social subjects on which I question: the power and influence of social norms, new forms of testimonies of everyday reality, human behavior....
