Night Photography nominee

The light from the buildings was so bright I had to use neutral density filters to slow my shutter. This created the sense of movement within the pedestrians allowing the viewer to experience the bustle of Tokyo life. Despite the chaos of a busy Tokyo scramble crossing, everything proceeded with complete patience and kindness.

Richard Vandegriend is a self-taught Vancouver based photographer whose passion is landscape and fine-art photography. Believing that composition and timing are critical to a great image, compositional elements are not altered in post-processing. Instead care and patience are exercised to ensure the image was captured perfectly in camera. As landscape photography is so dependent on lighting and weather conditions, more often than not, great images are discovered rather than planned. One must give themselves the time and opportunity to discover these images.
