DESCRIPTION
This series features Turkish women with a muscular desease. They face challenges and prejudices every day but though physically weak, they have strong minds and lead independent lives.
The first image shows Derya sitting in her wheel chair at the Yeni Mosque in Istanbul. We didnt know if we'd be allowed in and how we were supposed to climb up the dozens of steps in the first place. What happened then still amazes me: a few men walked towards us, asked if they could help and eventually carried her upstairs. They then started searching for tape so they could put it on her wheels and keep them from soiling the floor. About 20 minutes later we were ready to go in and I took the photo.
The second photo shows Derya at a cemetery. Death is always present in her life but nevertheless, she focusses on LIVING. Few people share this attitude so she's constantly fighting for her freedom and independence. In Turkey, the possibilities for disabled people are quite limited compared to e.g. those in Germany.

Jessica Prautzsch is a Hamburg-based German Fashion Photographer. After finishing her Communications Design studies, she started her career as a Designer, Art Director and Photographer. Her works have been published in various national and international exhibitions and leading fashion titles, she is represented by art+commerce photovogue by Vogue Italia.
In her photography, Jessica aims to make visible emotions, feelings and moods. She strives to create a certain atmosphere, something that resonates with the audience. To stimulate their imagination is an elementary impulse and goal of her photographic work. For Jessica, the process of taking a photo is already a very important part, cause an emotional bond between her and the model is formed, which shapes the final results of the photo shoot.
With her work she gives impulses and tells fragments of a story, with which the audience can resonate and freely interpret.
