Hidden expressions (Single)
DESCRIPTION
This photograph was taken at the Singapore Zoo, in the fragile forest exhibit. It is a photograph of a male white face saki monkey. This photograph was taken when this male white face saki monkey was grooming a female white face saki monkey monkey. I snuck up behind them and the male white face saki monkey turned around as he heard me approaching and I took the shot. I titled it "Hidden expressions" because it is difficult to notice facial expressions at that moment. It is only after I went home and took a good look at the photograph, then I realised that the monkey looked annoyed at my presence. I feel like the white face saki monkey's face very accurately discribes its mood at the moment. The shot was taken in the evening hours, which means that this monkey has probably seen a days worth of tourists, and when I snuck up to him, I probably interupted his time with his mate which will be pretty annoying. At the moment when I took the shot, I thought he was just curious of me. But after a closer look, it tells a whole different story.
AUTHOR
I am Jonah Goh. I mainly do wildlife photography. I like to shoot close ups of my subjects. My interest in close up photography came from shooting insects. I have an interest in insects and macrophotography seem to bring out what we do not usually see in these little creatures, making them more intriguing. Soon I also started shooting close ups of other animals, bringing out details and expressions we do not always notice when we see these animals. I like close up photography because it brings out details that we often take for granted or pass by without noticing, it makes us stop and really take a good look at things we see everyday, helping us to slow down in this fast paced world and to slowly take it all in.
