Babel questions the impact of aggressive urbanization on the quality of life of the individual. By destabilizing the apparent order of the urban landscape this project criticizes a society compulsively obsessed with progress, speeding towards a negative utopia.
Babel aims at displaying a more contemporary reconstruction of the metropolis; an ethereal image devoid of mystifications now embedded in our culture.
In a future that by now has become the present, the expectations of the past collide against reality, giving birth to a visceral and demystified vision of the urban structure.
This series is captured with a medium format camera on color negative film through the controlled use of long shutter times and layering of different exposures.
The urban structure is designed so as to foster consumption and production needed for the continuous elevation of the metropolis. The dystopian world depicted in this project shows cities scaling higher and higher in the name of social interests, where humans are being trapped in more and more confined and stifling spaces.
Babel reduces the urban landscape into obscure forms, revealing the hidden anxieties imbedded in the proliferating metropolis.
