The series "America" explores American identity, and the stereotypical America through self-staged photographs. The places represented in the images are both trivial and typical. I want my images to have a certain duality: To be fictional, and at the same time pretend to be for real.
In front of the camera I explore how I can be transformed into someone else. While the artwork itself portrays a person who is not me, there is always a part of myself in the picture, as I’m the model. By seeing and interpreting other people, I also see a part of myself, and the images become an exploration of both my own identity, and the identity of others.
By standing both in front and behind the camera I become more engaged in creating my images. Staged photography is about performing acts, and I want to take full control of those acts by being in front of the camera, as well as behind.
