Conceptual nominee

This photograph, "Reclaiming Your Voice," is image two of five in a photo essay commissioned by 500px Studio, in collaboration with UN Women for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, part of the United Nations' UNiTE to End Violence against Women Campaign.

“Reclaiming your Voice” is about finding your voice again in the midst of abuse, and speaking out although others try to silence you. Too often women are met with opposition when trying to speak up or ask for help. Abusers are great at trying to silence their victims, and speaking up is often incredibly difficult when dealing with feelings of shame or fear of not being believed. It is important to me to not only bring awareness through my images, but to hopefully empower others who have been, or are currently in, situations of violence and abuse.

Gina Vasquez is a 24 year old photographer currently residing in New York City. Her unique conceptual style ranges from portraits to nature, and anything that catches her eye.

Through her photographs, Gina aims to bring her emotions and imagination to life in a way that resonates with the viewer.
