The series “Mil Palmeras Scenes” shows self-staged photographs from the small town Mil Palmeras, located along Costa Blanca in Spain.
I want to explore the relationship between character and place, in an environment loaded with humour, silence, loneliness and discomfort. In film still like settings I try to challenge the viewers to create their own stories.
My images explore identity and transformation of myself pretending to be someone else. While the artwork itself portrays a person who is not me, there is always a part of myself in the picture, as I’m the model. By seeing and interpreting other people, I also see a part of myself, and the images become an exploration of both my own identity, and the identity of others.
By standing both in front and behind the camera I become more engaged in creating my images. Staged photography is about performing acts, and I want to take full control of those acts by being in front of the camera, as well as behind.
