A frustrating part of our society is the fact that the individual is more and more alienated from their surroundings. You can walk in a crowded city, but still feel alone and scared. A packed streets can be the loneliest place on earth. And to me, that's one of the most scary things in this universe.
That feeling is something I wanted to express in this artwork. By going to a crowded street and showing the hollow, frozen expressions that people seem to have while going from one place to another. Stressed, on their own, not enjoying one and other.
I'm trying to wake people up with this image. Trying to show them that loneliness is a creeping disease that is hiding in the crowd.

Ben Kortman is a young photographer who started his career in sports. After a three year period of learning and experimenting, the step to professional photography was made by switching to advertising photography for brands like KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and KPN Royal Dutch Telecom. In the meantime Ben used his spare time to focus on artistic portraits and abstract artwork.
