Digital collage of my photos and sourced old masters still life paintings.
The flowers, in conjunction with the photo, are meant to emulate the old still life paintings from which they are derived. The collages developed over time to become almost a "Momento Mori" or even "vanitas" to the concept of beauty. It speaks somewhat of the brevity and inevitable decay of it all. In it's early stages the project was more of an homage to beauty but over it's development it started taking on a deeper meaning. We live in a world obsessed with the culture and commercial value of beauty and youth, and society is of a belief that without it or once it begins to fade, so do we and our sense of implied self worth. Much in the same way that flowers wilt and lose value as a result. As a woman and photographer I try to immortalise it through my work, perhaps in some obscure way of trying to possess it.
