Simone at Twelve (Single)
DESCRIPTION
This portrait is from my Twelve photo series documenting the lives of 12-year-old girls living in New York City. For many girls, twelve is the year they transition between childhood and adulthood, a time of both disorientation and discovery. I wanted to try and capture this fleeting yet critical period of their lives. In 2016, I started inviting girls to share their stories for my camera-- they could reveal as much or as little as they wished. I hoped to capture a range of these girls' experiences as they navigated emotional and physical changes, shifting social dynamics and evolving self-identities.
