The world looks different at the lowest point on Earth.
The Dead Sea has no marine life, no outflow; its water evaporates into thin air, leaving nothing but salt. While the scenery seems monotonous from afar, the salts in the water form unique shapes with intricate textures, creating an otherworldly landscape enveloped in a thick haze that dampens every sound to an eerie silence.
Endangered by human activity and sinkholes, the landscape is slowly changing and the water shrinking.
Will this body of water still exist in 20 years?
Israel and Jordan are working together on a project that could begin to slow down the water loss or even restore the Dead Sea by connecting the waters of the Red Sea. Geologists and researchers are worried that this could create an even bigger ecological disaster. No obvious solution seems in sight.
