In recent decades the native population of Venice greatly reduced, currently being just over 51 thousand from the 175 thousand inhabitants of the 50s of last century.
Much has changed, yet Venice has been for centuries the sea port and a crossroads of peoples and cultures.
With the advent of air transport at competitive prices, Venice has now definitely fewer inhabitants but many more visitors arriving from every corner of the world to admire its history and its beauty.
To the inhabitants of Venice, therefore, visitors of all nationalities are added, elderly people, children in a heterogeneous mixture of races, ages and nationalities; sounds, smells and colours make of Venice a lively and vibrant city. Venice has always been a source of inspiration for poets, writers and artists and it is no wonder that also photography finds in it inspiration for new ideas.
My photographic journey stems from my pleasure to walk aimlessly along the narrow streets of Venice, its “campi”, its “fondamenta”, to observe the people I come across and capture moments of their daily life, to share with the subjects I catch fragments of their emotions.
