Kalahari, roughly translated from Khoi San as The Great Thirst Land, is a semi arid environment sitting on hundreds of meters of sand. Most of the water that falls as rain simply drains into a vast network of underground rivers and lakes beneath the ground.
'The Great Thirst' focuses on the key human impacts threatening the Kalahari Desert in Botswana; Habitat loss, desertification, extreme weather as a result of global warming and over exploitation of wildlife.
The series of images explores man's great thirst for interfering with the fragile natural processes that so delicately hang in the balance of life and death.
The images memorialise mans impact on the, already, harsh environment of the Kalahari, showcasing it’s inhabitants and their struggle in this unforgiving environment.
My work invites you to consider and reflect upon mans impact on the environment and the vast array of life that depends on it's health, including us.
