Walking down the city of Hong Kong, one cannot fail to notice the typical architecture that is so characteristic for this vibrant metropole.
The city is located on the southern coast of China and consists of many mountainous islands with steep slopes that limit the amount of building space.
With such high demand but limited space for building, the architecture in Hong Kong is restricted to high-density residential and commercial complexes that are located in close proximity to each other.
As a result, Hong Kong is the city with the highest number of skyscrapers in the entire world.
Wandering around in the city, I have often looked up and gazed at the countless of apartments that offer a view on each other with only a tiny patch of sky being the only piece of visible nature.
Sounds from laughing children from one window, a loud Chinese tv-show from another, singing from a small window on the opposite side..
I feel how so many families are living their lives in this stacked village above my head.

AUTHOR
Born and raised in The Netherlands in 1983, I was fascinated by natural light in all its forms since a young age.
Now working as a pilot, flying all over the world, I always have my camera with me to immortalize the world around me, be it from the cockpit or at destinations that I am fortunate to visit.
Capturing moments that have never been seen before and will never be seen again with eye for light, composition and mood.
