DESCRIPTION
These photographs are from the third shoot of my 'Body Parts' project in which I use life-size mannequins to explore certain personal, social and political themes. On this occasion, I wanted to explore my feelings about the human body, which I have always found a mysterious, ugly/beautiful thing.
To this end, I deconstructed my mannequins and suspended the parts from a scaffolding frame, then captured them in both static and moving states. The results were very different from what I expected as they mostly revealed undercurrents of violence, menace and dark cinematic themes. The beauty was there, of course, but revealed itself in subtle, delicate ways that could easily be missed.
Overall, the photos confirmed my suspicion that there is something inherently violent, or at least problematic, in contemporary depictions of the human body and that my contradictory feelings are probably widely shared, at least among the male population.
