Leeches address maladies by sucking "bad blood.”A therapy was described to me in Iran where a dr would place a noose around a woman’s neck until she passed out. When veins appeared on her forehead, the dr would cut one.
The people who took me to the leech clinic believed that the treatment helped with issues related to a woman's womb.As I have a blood disease that causes inflammation in multiple systems(incl my uterus),I've been researching options.
2 yrs later, I developed massive tumors.I decided to do a series about my condition& incl representations of earlier experiences.
In this pic, I’m in a milk bath – a common maternity technique –since my uterus was swelled to 5+ mos pregnant.I’d opted to have 2 surgeries at Mayo Clinic to cut off the blood supply to the tumors.Like many, I was told that I HAD to have a hysterectomy but, as these cause side effects, I fought to get Mayo covered instead.
While assumed to be benign (they can't biopsy them unless removed), fibroids greatly affect women's lives.I’m trying to educate people about them. The surgery I had costs < a hysterectomy. It’s been 6 mos & so far the tumors have been shrinking.
