Synapse (Single)
DESCRIPTION
SYNAPSE: From the Greek synapsis meaning “conjunction” is the structure that permits a nerve cell to transmit an electrical signal to another and although not continuous throughout the human body can still communicate with each other and, it’s theorized, to other cell types. Not unlike the amazing structures functioning within the bodies of humans, animals and other life forms, this communication system is believed to connect us to the living world around us on our ‘Goldilocks’ blue marble. As we continue to wreak havoc, insensitive and oblivious to this delicate thread so we sow an uncertain and tenuous future. This image was created during an unusually wet and foreboding Spring that left surrounding hillsides rich and bountiful with colourful flora including Arrowleaf balsam Root, Arctic Lupine, Larkspur and Shooting Stars.
AUTHOR
I was born in Canada and have been shooting as an amateur for several decades. I'm considered old school and only shoot film with film-based Nikon equipment. I studied Photographic Arts at Selkirk College in Castlegar, BC and completed it with honors. The vast majority of my work is performed outdoors with outdoor flash equipment, reflectors and natural light. Although my passion is shooting nudes in natural landscapes I also enjoy creating abstract art composed of human and non-human imagery resulting in new surreal pictures rich with added detail, color, texture, and conflict, [with a tinge of disturbing elements non-existent in their original components]. The marrying of these differing but co-existing worlds is also meant to demonstrate the close symbiotic relationship between men, women and the environment they all share. None of the images are meant to be "pretty" but instead, are birthed to evoke further thought and discussion to ensure the viewer is 'hooked', reflective and slightly off-balance.
As a man who has suffered from extreme manic depressive bi-polar disorder his entire life, the desire to create images for others to enjoy has saved my life many times over. Photography is a wonderful gift to share.
