Isolation
Isolation is one of eight series that together form my body of work entited “Good Grief” – a visual articulation of my personal journey after the life-changing loss of her mother.
It is in the somber farmlands between Pemberton and Lillooet B.C. where I find the visual expression that conveys the devouring sense of isolation following loss. Forgoing a map, I drove through unfamiliar roads in the height of winter to lose myself in the peaceful, remote snowscapes. “Isolation,” focuses on the division between the mourner and the rest of the world, where secluded spaces are the backdrop for emotional rest and deep reparative work. The dream-like blanched palate reflects the purity and unusual sense of calm often found in this juncture of one’s grief journey. The physical being dwells amongst others and treks through the day to day monotony and trials of life, while the emotional self rests in utter solitude. I captured this series to reflect those places where the mind wonders, the respite in this withdrawal, and the divide between mind and body.
