Nudes nominee

Helga is a well traveled and open minded woman who lives in a little house in the countryside. She surprised me with her profound knowledge about extracting dies from plants and dying wool for knitting.

Helga also owns a stable, two sheep, some chickens and rabbits. She does not often eat meat but – well – the occasional rabbit. „At least I know my rabbits had a good life.”, she said and smirked.

We spent most of the late afternoon taking photographs, smoking her cigarillos on the front porch and talking about life.

In the evening I got invited for dinner. On her kitchen shelves Helga keeps a great variety of dried herbs in preserving jars. She loves cooking exotic meals. I also tried her home made chutneys – they were excellent.

Christian Nowak was born in Northern Germany in 1971 and grew up in the small fishing town of Heiligenhafen. This did not stop him seeking out luck in the Elbe metropolis of Hamburg.
After successfully studying graphic design, Christian found himself in the colorful world of advertising, where he (as an employee at first and a co-owner of a multimedia agency later on) prepared boring content in an entertaining manner.
In 2012 Nowak turned his back on his former occupation and started the artistic exploration of human photography. Since then he has sharpened mind and eye, put his fingers into the wounds of our time and challenged social conventions with dedication - and sometimes, chutzpah.
