1. Daily life of burmese monks often involves chores at the monestry. Here a monk at Shwe Man monestry cleans dishes before mealtime.
2.The overwhelming majority of Burmese monks wear maroon robes. Unlike in neighbouring countries like Thailand, Laos and Sri Lanka, where monks wear saffron robes.
3. Monastic schools receive little government funding. Maintenance of school are often the responsibility of student and monks. As such, the schools are often busy with running chores. Here students grab a quick bite before cleaning.
4. Often only a minority of children attending monastic schools will become novice monks. Schooling includes classic subjects such as science, mathmatics and literature, but also includes the teachings of Buda. Here a school boy is waiting between classes.
5. Burma monastic schools often accept children from needy families who live nearby and are unable to attend government schools. Here children line up to recieve daily rations such as burnmese sweets and paracetamol.
