NUTOPIA (Series)
DESCRIPTION
Nutopia is a series of photo-collages of a society composed by the Coalition of Confederate City-states of Nutopia - CCCN. This series is formed by different imagined spaces part of the City-states. The project aims to explore the creation of an alternate utopian reality via photo manipulation. I have incorporated a futuristic surrealist playful narrative that draws inspiration from architectural movements. In particular movements that have a clear focus on the development of novel urban engineering ideas and the conception of hypothetical projects such as Archigram and Futurism. Additionally, I aim to investigate the dialectical element intrinsic to the image via the crossover of fiction and reality, with a focus on visual utopian/dystopian narratives, photo-collage composition and the study of perspective. Each fictional image has been assembled by taking elements from photos of different buildings, landscapes and ordinary objects found in urban spaces (i.e.: signage, street furniture, neons, etc). All the elements used in the project come from over 50 unique photos that have been taken by me, using both digital and film cameras. There are a few computer generated elements too. The images have been taken on 8 different countries/10 cities across Europe and The US.
