Using the colour darkroom as a tool of my process instead of as a machine to print I have manipulated the idea of a photographic negative by simply removing it as a object to create a photograph with. This single image which is part of a much bigger series presents a photography firstly, as a link between the traditional process and the much more technically experimental contemporary process. Secondly, you can find inspiration from drawing, painting and sculpture through the wild use of shape, light, colour and movement used from shapes created by moving card when the photo paper is being exposed.
Finally, the most important aspect of this work is the fact it is made through the use of a handmade negative. Using cheap materials (as I was a student) consisting of pen marks on teared masking tape I enhanced and enriched the textures and marks made through tearing and drawing on this material.
