Portrait nominee

In Podlachia (Podlasie) – one of the cleanest regions in Poland – for many generations locals have been gathering medicinal plants – wildly-growing herbs. They pick flowers and leaves, dig for roots and peel branches for bark. They’re often bothered by heat, pestered by mosquitoes and ticks, they need to remain in a bent position for many hours at a stretch, and then they must carry back everything they’ve gathered.

Alas, there are very few real gatherers left – they’re mostly elderly people that have been harvesting herbs from the wild for several dozen years now. My goal was to save their fading figures from oblivion and pay tribute to their hard work.

A doctoral student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. She has also won several art competitions, including: a two-time distinction at WKF National Geographic (2016), National Geographic Traveler competition (2016, 2018), distinctions at the Mobile Photography Awards (2016, 2017, 2018,2019), Mira Mobile Prize (2016, 2017, 2018), Our World is Beautiful Cewe Awards (2017), Mobile Art From All Over The World (2018), Distinction Portrait (2018), Silver in PX3 PRIX DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE PARIS (2018), 1 st GOLD MEDAL in International Photography Awards (IPA 2018), NATIONAL Gold Medal in JUST ONE PHOTO (2018), FIAP Blue Ribbon PhotOdlot (2018), 1 st Place Portrait Trzcianka (2018), GRAND PRIX Festival Yes Im Mobile(2018), Chromatic Awards 2018,TIFA 2018 gold, silver and 2 bronze.
