Listen to the World Project (Series)
DESCRIPTION
After hiking to a seventeen thousand foot summit with all of my digital camera gear and tripod in Peru, I came across a local family with a three year old daughter. I spent some time to get to know them and was eventually granted permission to capture the little girl’s photograph. At that moment, I realized that I would never be able to send them a copy. I have since carried an instant film camera with me so that I can offer photographs to individuals along my travels. I have actually fallen in love with the medium and invested time in creative processes associated with film photography. I started a project this year called Listen to the World. I limited myself to two or three images per day while traveling. After taking each photograph, I spent time sitting, viewing, listening and taking in the scene and savoring the moment while the image developed. It became a very intimate process. This has completely transformed my eye for photography and my experiences while traveling the world.
AUTHOR
Epic creativity can stem from manipulating images, whether they are digital or analog. As a child, I used film cameras and later worked with digital cameras. My energy has returned to analog processes to depict moments in time, intriguing scenes and surreal worlds using dreamy pinhole images, aged Polaroid shots, and grainy dark-room printed double-exposures. From homemade cameras, vintage bellowed Kodaks, and peel apart film Land Cameras to dark-room experimentations, chemically altered instant-film, and hand-built filters, my photography is an never-ending adventure!
Based in Montana, I work as an educator certified in art, math, and physics focusing primarily on non-traditional arts and Photography. Whenever possible I work as a freelance photographer specializing in travel and outdoor imagery with an emphasis on film experimentation. My photography work spans the globe from NW US, Florida & DC to Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. However, some of my favorite photographs have come from the interactions with local people.
